Presented by: Dr. John Tegzes, V.M.D.

Dr. John Tegzes is a veterinarian with specialty certification in Toxicology (Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology). He is the Interim Dean and Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. From 2012 to 2022 he served as Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) for a university-wide curricular program that includes students from nine health professions. The IPE courses focus on the competencies that are necessary to deliver high-quality and value-based care which is both patient- and population-centered.

His toxicology research focuses on the diagnostic and clinical management of poisoned patients, both human and animal. Areas of focus have included the effects of venomous snakebites and was part of a team that developed a novel approach to antivenin development and administration in animals. Additionally, he has focused on the detection and mitigation of mycotoxins in both human and animal foods and feeds.

He lives in Los Angeles, California with his partner, and too many animals to include in this paragraph! In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, various outdoor activities, and exploring new cuisines.
