RESCHEDULED: PSCTP Speaker Series - Infections in Travelers: True Stories from the Field
PSCTP SPEAKER SERIES 2022 May 4th 7pm via Zoom
Registered guests will receive the Zoom invitation by email prior to event.
In 1987, Dr. Claire Panosian Dunavan created UCLA’s first-ever Travel and Tropical Medicine clinic. Soon, the Clinic was attracting patients, US- and foreign-born, with everything from traveler’s diarrhea to exotic parasitic blights. In her second career as a medical journalist, Dr. Dunavan shared some of her patients’ stories in the pages of the Los Angeles Times, New York Times and Discover magazine. Her goal? To shine a light on “dual-burden” infections that occasionally afflict travelers at the same time they impose a far greater burden on the global poor. This lecture will share stories and facts about five such tropical diseases, starting with malaria.
